<p>Need Art History or Studio credits? Want to spend your summer in the city of water looking at art? Pratt in Venice is holding its first informational meeting on <strong>Wednesday, February 1<sup>st</sup> at 12:30 in Main 230</strong>. This is a great chance to find out more about the program, meet the professors, and other specifics such as application procedures and dates. The program is running for its 28<sup>th</sup> year, and has a distinguished reputation among study abroad programs at Pratt. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Contemporary Art History with Asia Focus<br />
Department of Art / Department of Art History<br />
University of Oregon</p>
<p>The Department of Art and the Department of Art History at the <a href="http://www.uoregon.edu/">University of Oregon</a> invite applications for a full-time tenure-track joint appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will have a research concentration in a region of Asia (broadly defined as East Asia, South and Southeast Asia, and beyond). Applications from candidates whose research explores cross-cultural and interdisciplinary aspects of contemporary visual culture especially welcomed. Active research and scholarship in the field is expected. The teaching assignment is five courses in an academic year comprising three quarters. Teaching duties include one graduate and one undergraduate contemporary art theory and criticism course in the Department of Art, and three courses in the Department of Art History, ranging from undergraduate surveys to graduate seminars. As a joint appointment, the candidate will be engaged with students and faculty in both departments, with his/her tenure home in Art History.</p>
<p>Art and Art History are located within the School of Architecture and Allied Arts, a dynamic, multidisciplinary community of scholars, practitioners, and students that also includes departments and programs in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Historic Preservation, Product Design, and Museum Studies. The UO also houses many programs, initiatives, and resources related to Asian art and culture, such as the Asian Studies Program, the Center for Asian and Pacific Studies, and the collections of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, as well as programs in Ethnic Studies and Cinema Studies. In addition, the Schnitzer Museum and the White Box Gallery in the UO Portland Center afford potential curatorial opportunities.</p>
<p>Required qualifications: PhD completed by September 15, 2012, evidence of scholarly achievement, and a record of teaching excellence. The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse backgrounds.</p>

<strong>Description:</strong> Seeking an intern to assist with a variety of museum related research projects and documenting, editing, and preparing media for distribution on Education related social media sites (web, blog, facebook, tubmlr).</p>
<p><strong>Duties may include (but are not limited to):</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Web and publication research on certain areas related to Museums and Education issues.</li>
<li>Documenting Education Events via photography or video</li>
<li>Downloading and formatting media</li>
<li>Preparing media for Web, Blog, Tumblr, Facebook posts and articles</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Qualifications:</strong><br />
Candidate must be highly organized, able to work independently, and have a positive, flexible attitude. Experience with Microsoft Office, WordPress, iPhoto, Photoshop, Flickr, and other digital media a plus.</p>
<p><strong>Rubin Museum of Art Overview:</strong><br />
Rubin Museum of Art is home to a comprehensive collection of art from the Himalayas and surrounding regions. Through changing exhibitions and an array of engaging public programs, the Rubin Museum offers opportunities to explore the artistic legacy of the Himalayan region and to appreciate its place in the context of world cultures. <p><strong>Intern Activities:</strong><br />
Interns in all museum departments are invited to participate several group activities per semester:</p>
<ul>
<li>Brown-bag lunches: staff guests discuss their jobs as well as their educational, professional, and artistic backgrounds allowing interns to learn about various museum departments and careers.</li>
<li>Private tours of NYC cultural organizations: these trips are designed to expose interns to the broader New York City arts world, as well as the field of Himalayan studies. Past tours have included: Asia Society, ICP, Latse Contemporary Tibetan Cultural Library, and CUE Art Foundation.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Intern Benefits:</strong><br />
All internships are unpaid. Academic requirements may be fulfilled by arrangement with the individual college or university. Rubin Museum interns receive the following benefits:</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This past Fall, Pratt HA&amp;D students enrolled in a special course dedicated to the exhibition <a href="http://www.themorgan.org/exhibitions/exhibition.asp?id=49">David, Delacroix, and Revolutionary France: Drawings from the Louvre</a> at <a href="http://www.themorgan.org/home.asp">The Morgan Library</a>.  Students in <a href="http://www.pratt.edu/academics/art_and_design/history_of_art_and_design/faculty_and_staff/bio/?id=jpoliste">Dr. Polistena</a>’s course enjoyed a curatorial lecture and tour of the exhibition, a private viewing of 18th-19th century prints by Jaques-Louis David, Eugene Delacroix, and Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres in the Morgan Library Print Room. Additionally, at the <a href="http://www.metmuseum.org/research/libraries-and-study-centers/study-rooms-for-drawings-and-prints">Metropolitan Museum of Art Print Study Room</a>, the students heard a talk by Pierre-Paul Prud’hon expert, Dr. Elizabeth M. Rudy, in which they viewed exceptional and rare prints of the period (see photo).</p>

Her article on the Prospect 2 Biennial in New Orleans will appear in the upcoming issue of <a href="http://artforum.com/">Artforum</a>.  Professor Díaz’s interview with Alfredo Jaar appeared in the Cooper Union book <a href="http://cooper.edu/about/news/crude-rare-catalog">The Crude and the Rare</a>, edited by Saskia Bos and Steven Lam, and her interview with Carlos Motta appeared in the Routledge volume <a href="http://www.routledge.com/books/details/9780415882224/">Net Works: Case Studies in Web Art and Design</a>, edited by Xtine Burrough.</p>
<p>Professor Díaz’s article reviewing the recent exhibitions and literature about the Bauhaus appeared in the summer issue of <a href="http://artjournal.collegeart.org/">Art Journal</a>, and her article on the New Orleans-based artist Deborah Luster will appear in the forthcoming issue of the UK journal <a href="http://www.intellectbooks.co.uk/journals/view-Journal,id=195/">Art &amp; the Public Sphere</a>.  She will be writing on Sharon Lockhart for catalog of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and The Israel Museum, Jerusalem 2012 exhibition on the artist. She is a regular contributor to Artforum, and her writing has appeared this year in <a href="http://www.frieze.com/">Frieze</a>, <a href="http://www.tate.org.uk/tateetc/">Tate, Etc.</a>, and <a href="http://www.mitpressjournals.org/grey">Grey Room</a>.</p>
